These turkey lettuce wrap tacos are a quick, healthy, and flavorful meal featuring juicy seasoned ground turkey wrapped in crisp lettuce leaves, perfect for a light dinner or crowd-pleasing appetizer.

  • 1 lb (450 g) lean ground turkey breast
  • 1 head romaine or butter lettuce leaves
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • A handful fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • Optional toppings: grated cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream or Greek yogurt, diced tomatoes or salsa, avocado slices

Instructions

  1. Carefully separate the lettuce leaves from the head, rinse under cold water, and pat dry. Set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  3. Add the finely chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  5. Add ground turkey to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally until no pink remains and the meat is cooked through but still juicy.
  6. Sprinkle in ground cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes to meld flavors.
  7. Remove skillet from heat and stir in fresh lime juice and chopped cilantro if using.
  8. Spoon the turkey mixture into prepared lettuce leaves and top with optional toppings as desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not overcook the turkey to keep it juicy. Use fresh spices for best flavor. If lettuce leaves are too stiff, briefly dip in warm water and pat dry to soften. Add lime juice after reheating leftovers to brighten flavors.
