Ingredients

Scale
  • Fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • Seedless green grapes
  • Fresh pineapple chunks
  • Kiwi slices, peeled
  • Banana slices, ripe but firm
  • Wooden or bamboo skewers (6-inch or longer)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) Greek yogurt, plain and full-fat
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • A pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash all fresh fruit thoroughly. Hull the strawberries and slice them in half lengthwise. Peel the kiwi and slice into rounds about 1/4 inch thick. Cut the pineapple into bite-sized chunks roughly 1 inch each. Peel the banana and slice into 1/2 inch thick rounds. Keep all the fruit pieces roughly the same size for even kabobs.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of Greek yogurt with 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, and a pinch of ground cinnamon if using. Whisk until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust sweetness or lemon juice as needed. Chill the dip while assembling kabobs.
  3. Take a skewer and start threading fruit in the order that creates the β€œCupid’s arrow” effect: begin with a grape, then a slice of kiwi, followed by a strawberry half, a pineapple chunk, a banana slice, and finish with another grape. Repeat the pattern for a visually appealing arrangement. Leave about 1/2 inch of skewer at the bottom for easy handling.
  4. Place kabobs neatly on your serving platter. Spoon the creamy yogurt dip into a small bowl placed in the center or alongside. For a pretty touch, sprinkle a tiny bit of cinnamon or finely chopped mint leaves over the dip.

Notes

Use ripe but firm fruits to avoid mushy kabobs. Toss banana slices in lemon juice before assembling to prevent browning. The yogurt dip can be made dairy-free by substituting coconut yogurt and honey with maple syrup for a vegan option. Soak wooden skewers in water for 10 minutes if grilling. Assemble kabobs just before serving to keep fruit fresh.
