A vibrant and refreshing summer drink combining juicy watermelon, fresh mint, tangy lime, and a spicy Tajín rim for a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (600 grams) seedless, chopped watermelon
  • 1/4 cup (about 10 grams) fresh mint leaves, loosely packed
  • Juice of 2 medium limes (about 3 tablespoons or 45 ml)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) cold water
  • 2 tablespoons (25 grams) sugar, adjustable to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Tajín seasoning for rimming glasses
  • Ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  1. Pour the Tajín seasoning onto a small plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of each glass to moisten it, then dip the rims into the Tajín to coat evenly. Set the glasses aside in the fridge to chill while you prepare the drink.
  2. Place the chopped watermelon and fresh mint leaves into a blender. Blend on high until the mixture is smooth and vibrant pink, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a large pitcher, pressing gently with a spatula to extract as much juice as possible. (Optional: skip straining if you prefer pulp.)
  4. Stir in the freshly squeezed lime juice and sugar until the sugar dissolves completely. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  5. Pour in the cold water and stir gently to combine.
  6. Fill the prepared Tajín-rimmed glasses with ice cubes and pour the agua fresca over. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint or a small lime wedge if desired.

Notes

Use ripe watermelon for best flavor. Adjust sugar based on watermelon sweetness. Straining is optional but recommended for a smooth texture. Chill glasses with Tajín rim before serving. Serve immediately over ice for best taste. Tajín can be substituted with chili powder and salt if unavailable.
