A quick and easy Spanish-inspired shrimp dish cooked in garlic butter with a touch of chili flakes, perfect for a comforting and flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined (fresh or frozen, thawed)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 68 cloves garlic, thinly sliced or minced
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: peel and devein shrimp if not already done. Thinly slice or mince garlic cloves. Chop fresh parsley and squeeze lemon juice.
  2. Heat the pan over medium heat. Add olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter. Let the butter melt gently without browning.
  3. Add the sliced garlic to the pan. Stir frequently to avoid burning. Cook until garlic is golden and fragrant.
  4. Add red chili flakes, then add shrimp in a single layer. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side until shrimp turn pink and opaque. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  5. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat shrimp in the garlicky butter sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Sprinkle chopped parsley over the top just before serving.

Notes

Keep heat moderate and stir constantly when cooking garlic to avoid burning. Add butter in two stages for a silky sauce. Dry shrimp thoroughly before cooking to prevent steaming and rubbery texture. Avoid overcooking shrimp; they should curl into a loose ‘C’ shape.
