A simple, affordable Halloween punch that changes color when you add the ‘magic’ ingredient. Made with everyday grocery staples, it’s a kid-approved treat that looks magical without breaking the bank.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (64-ounce) bottle white grape juice (or white cranberry juice), chilled
  • 1 (2-liter) bottle lemon-lime soda (like Sprite or 7UP), chilled
  • 1 (12-ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup blue sports drink (like Blue Gatorade or Powerade)
  • 1 cup lime sherbet (optional, but highly recommended)
  • Ice cubes (regular or with frozen gummy worms or plastic spider rings)

Instructions

  1. Chill all ingredients (white grape juice, lemon-lime soda, pineapple juice, and blue sports drink) thoroughly, preferably overnight.
  2. Optional: The night before, make fun ice cubes by filling ice cube trays with water, adding a gummy worm or plastic spider ring to each compartment, and freezing. Add a few drops of green or purple food coloring for extra spookiness.
  3. In a large pitcher, combine the chilled white grape juice, thawed lemonade concentrate, and pineapple juice. Stir until the lemonade concentrate is fully dissolved (about 1 minute).
  4. Slowly pour the lemon-lime soda into the pitcher, pouring gently down the side to preserve fizz. Stir gently.
  5. Transfer the mixture from the pitcher into a large punch bowl or plastic cauldron.
  6. Slowly pour the blue sports drink into the center of the punch bowl. Do not stir immediately; let it swirl and change color for about 30 seconds, then gently stir to incorporate. The punch should turn a deep, eerie greenish-purple.
  7. If using, drop scoops of lime sherbet into the punch. They will float and create a frothy, bubbling effect.
  8. Gently add the ice cubes (fun or regular) to keep the punch cold without splashing.
  9. Serve immediately with a ladle into cups, ensuring each cup gets some sherbet foam and a gummy worm if used.

Notes

Best served within 1 hour of making. For make-ahead, mix the base (grape juice, lemonade concentrate, pineapple juice) up to 24 hours in advance; add soda, sports drink, and sherbet just before serving. If punch doesn’t change color, add more blue sports drink. For a less sugary version, use diet soda and sugar-free sports drink.
