These creamy peanut butter banana overnight oats take five minutes to throw together and taste like dessert masquerading as something responsible. No slime, no sad textures—just a breakfast you’ll look forward to eating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (50g) rolled oats (old-fashioned oats)
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) milk of choice (whole milk, oat milk, almond milk, or coconut milk)
  • 1/4 cup (60g) Greek yogurt (plain full-fat preferred)
  • 1 medium ripe banana (the riper, the better)
  • 2 tablespoons (32g) creamy peanut butter (natural preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tablespoon (12g) chia seeds (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • For topping (optional): sliced banana, drizzle of peanut butter, chopped peanuts or almonds, sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa nibs, dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Mash the banana first. Peel the ripe banana and mash it thoroughly with a fork until it forms a smooth paste with no large chunks.
  2. Warm the peanut butter. Spoon 2 tablespoons of peanut butter into a small microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 10-15 seconds until loose and drizzly.
  3. Combine the wet ingredients. Add the mashed banana, warmed peanut butter, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup Greek yogurt, and 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey to the jar. Stir until smooth and uniform.
  4. Add the dry ingredients. Pour in 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1 tablespoon chia seeds (if using), and a pinch of salt. Stir thoroughly until all oats are coated.
  5. Seal and refrigerate. Put the lid on the jar and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably 8-12 hours (overnight).
  6. Give it a stir before eating. In the morning, stir the oats well. If too thick, add a splash of milk to reach desired consistency.
  7. Add toppings and enjoy. Top with sliced banana, peanut butter drizzle, chopped nuts, or other toppings. Eat cold or microwave for 30-45 seconds if preferred.

Notes

Use rolled oats (old-fashioned) for best texture—not quick oats or steel-cut. Mash the banana thoroughly and warm the peanut butter for even distribution. Do not skip the salt; it enhances the peanut butter flavor. The oats keep well in the fridge for up to 5 days. For a vegan version, use plant-based milk, dairy-free yogurt, and maple syrup. For a high-protein version, add 1 scoop of protein powder and increase milk by 2-3 tablespoons.
