2-ingredient cinnamon apple dumplings - featured image

Warm, tender apples wrapped in flaky, golden crescent roll dough, swimming in a sweet cinnamon syrup. This quick and easy dessert comes together in about 30 minutes with just two main ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 large apple (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash the apple thoroughly. Cut it in half, remove the core, and slice each half into 4 wedges (8 total).
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate into 8 triangles along the perforated lines.
  4. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of a crescent roll triangle. Roll the dough around the apple, starting from the wide end and rolling toward the point. Pinch the seams to seal. Repeat with remaining apple wedges and dough.
  5. Arrange the wrapped dumplings seam-side down in a greased or parchment-lined 8×8-inch baking dish.
  6. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, butter, and cinnamon. Stir constantly until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved (about 3-4 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the warm cinnamon syrup evenly over the dumplings.
  8. Bake for 18-22 minutes, until dumplings are golden brown and syrup is bubbling.
  9. Let the dumplings cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm, spooning extra syrup from the dish over each dumpling. Optionally, top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For best results, use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. Keep crescent roll dough cold until ready to use. Seal dough seams well to prevent apple from leaking. The cinnamon syrup is optional but highly recommended for best flavor. Dumplings can be assembled ahead and refrigerated for up to 4 hours before baking. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
