  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes (about 300 grams)
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella balls (Bocconcini or Ciliegine)
  • About 20 fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup balsamic glaze (60 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil (optional)
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • About 20 wooden skewers or toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves under cold water. Pat dry with a towel. Drain fresh mozzarella and gently pat it dry to avoid watery skewers.
  2. On each skewer or toothpick, thread one cherry tomato, followed by a folded basil leaf, then a mozzarella ball. Repeat the pattern if using longer skewers, or keep it to three components for bite-size.
  3. Lay the skewers out evenly on a serving platter, alternating colors for a festive look.
  4. Lightly drizzle the balsamic glaze over the skewers using a spoon or squeeze bottle. Avoid overdoing it to keep the fresh flavors balanced.
  5. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper over the skewers.
  6. Optionally, add a light drizzle of extra virgin olive oil for a richer mouthfeel.
  7. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate for up to 2 hours. Bring to room temperature before serving for best flavor.

Notes

Drain and dry mozzarella balls well to avoid soggy skewers. Fold basil leaves rather than threading flat to prevent tearing. Assemble skewers ahead and add balsamic glaze last minute to keep fresh. For dairy-free option, substitute mozzarella with firm tofu or vegan cheese. Balsamic glaze can be homemade by reducing balsamic vinegar until syrupy.
