A quick and easy sheet pan dinner featuring flaky salmon and crisp-tender asparagus roasted together with a buttery lemon dill sauce for bright, comforting flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 salmon fillets, skin-on, about 6 ounces (170g) each
  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus (about 12 ounces / 340g), trimmed
  • 4 tablespoons (57g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large lemon, zested and juiced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes for heat
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine softened butter with lemon zest, lemon juice, minced garlic, and chopped fresh dill. Mix well and set aside.
  3. Rinse asparagus and trim woody ends (about 1-2 inches). Toss asparagus with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread on one side of a rimmed baking sheet.
  4. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Lightly brush flesh side with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Place skin-side down on the other side of the baking sheet, leaving space between fillets.
  5. Spoon lemon dill butter generously over each salmon fillet.
  6. Roast in the oven for 12-15 minutes until salmon flakes easily and asparagus is tender-crisp with slightly caramelized tips.
  7. Let salmon rest for a couple of minutes after removing from oven. Optionally, squeeze extra lemon juice over everything and sprinkle with chopped parsley or red pepper flakes before serving.

Notes

Pat salmon dry before cooking for crispy skin. Let salmon sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before roasting for even cooking. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure proper roasting. Use fresh dill for best flavor. If butter browns too quickly, lower oven temperature or tent salmon with foil. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheat gently in a low oven to avoid drying.
