A quick and easy Halloween punch with a deep, naturally purple color and a mysterious shimmer. Made with grape juice, lemon-lime soda, and butterfly pea flower powder, this spooky drink comes together in just 10 minutes and is perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups purple grape juice (100% grape juice, not grape drink or cocktail)
  • 2 cups lemon-lime soda (Sprite, 7-Up, or store brand, chilled)
  • 1 cup pineapple juice (unsweetened is fine)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 23 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup honey or simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon butterfly pea flower powder
  • 2 cups cold water (or ice cubes)
  • Optional: dry ice (for smoking effect, handle with care)
  • Optional: gummy eyeballs, plastic spiders, or frozen ice cubes with bugs inside (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the purple grape juice, pineapple juice, and fresh lemon juice. Stir well.
  2. Add the honey or simple syrup. If using honey, warm it slightly in the microwave (about 10 seconds) so it dissolves easily. Stir until completely incorporated. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the butterfly pea flower powder with about 2 tablespoons of warm water. Stir until dissolved into a deep blue liquid. Pour this into the juice mixture and stir; the color will shift to a glowing lavender-purple.
  4. Add the cold water and stir. At this point, you can refrigerate the base for up to 24 hours. Do not add the soda until ready to serve.
  5. When ready to serve, pour the lemon-lime soda into the punch bowl. Stir gently to combine. The soda should be ice-cold.
  6. Add ice cubes (regular or creepy ice cubes). If using dry ice, add it now using tongs. Never touch dry ice with bare hands.
  7. Garnish with gummy eyeballs, plastic spiders, or other creepy decorations. Serve immediately.

Notes

The butterfly pea flower powder is the secret ingredient that gives the punch a glowing, iridescent purple color. Dissolve it in warm water first to avoid clumps. For a boozy version, add 1 cup of vodka, white rum, or gin. Dry ice adds a dramatic smoking effect but must be handled with care—never touch with bare hands, never seal in an airtight container, and never put directly into someone’s cup. The base can be made up to 24 hours in advance; add soda and ice just before serving.
